Las Vegas, New Mexico - Marc Benjamin was named the head softball coach at New Mexico Highlands University today by Co-Athletic Directors Shanna Halalilo and Jim Deisler.
Benjamin comes to NMHU from Oklahoma Panhandle State University where he spent the past four seasons leading the Aggies softball program. In 2022 he led OPSU to an overall record of 35-14 and a 22-8 mark in the Sooner Athletic Conference. He was recognized as the Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2021. Additionally, his 2022 club had a team GPA of 3.50 which was the sixth best in the NFCA academic standings.
From 2013 to 2017 Benjamin was the head coach at Barton Community College where he had a record of 138-68 including a school record 51-8 in 2016. His 2015 club was the NJCAA Region IV Tournament Champions.
In addition to his experience as a head coach, Benjamin has stops as an assistant coach at junior colleges Pitt Community College and Northwest Kansas Tech. He also spent time at the NCAA Division I level assisting at Campbell University and Southern Utah University.
Benjamin is a graduate of the University of Utah where he earned his degree in Political Science. He was a member of the Utes baseball team in 1992 and 1993.
