Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowboys dropped a pair of games Friday afternoon to visiting Colorado Christian, losing 20-7 in the opening game and 6-3 in the day's second contest.
The Cougars jumped on the Cowboys early in Saturday's first game scoring seven runs in the first and another eight runs in their half of the second to put the game out of reach. For the Cowboys the top three hitters in the lineup provided much of the offense in the game.
Gael Bernal was three for four with a run scored,
Benito Martinez went three for four with two RBI and two runs scored and
Carlos Chavez was two for three with four RBI and a home run.
Alan Salas added a pair of hits and scored a run.
Game two was scoreless through the first two frames when Colorado Christian scored a pair of runs in their half of the third inning. They would add two runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead. The Cowboys did all their damage in the bottom half of the fourth inning scoring three runs on three hits.
Nathan Corugedo laced a single that scored
Taiga Sato and
Alan Salas. Two batters later
Lubby Marrujo singled in Corugedo. That would be it for NMHU scoring for the afternoon.
The Cowboys are now 8-40 overall and 4-26 in the RMAC.
On Saturday afternoon, the Cowboys will conclude the 2024 season with a doubleheader against the visiting Cougars. Saturday is the annual Community Game presented by Quality Care.
