Box Score 2 Los Lunas, New Mexico - The Cowgirls opened the 2025 campaign by splitting a pair of games at the South Central Regional Challenge on Friday.
In Friday's opener, the Cowgirls spotted Western New Mexico an early 1-0 after the Mustangs scored in the home half of the first inning. The Cowgirls took the lead for good in their half of the third inning when they scored three runs. They added another run in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth as they cruised to a 7-2 win over their in-state rivals.
Dioni Lincoln was 3-4 with a home run and a double while
Andrea DeLaTrinidad was also 3-4.
Karla Banegas had two RBI for NMHU.
Jazmyn Griego got the start and went the distance as she scattered eight hits and struck out two to earn the victory.
The win over Western New Mexico was the first for Head Coach
Marc Benjamin at NMHU.
The Cowgirls ran into a buzz saw in the form of nationally ranked West Texas A&M in Friday's second game. The Lady Buffs, ranked 13th in this week's NFCA Division II poll, beat NMHU 11-0 in five innings.

Heaven Medina logged NMHU's only hit of the contest.
NMHU is back in action on Saturday with games against Eastern New Mexico at 3:00 pm and Sul Ross State at 5:30 pm.
