Cowgirls On The Road This Weekend

Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowgirls return to action after the holiday break traveling to Colorado Mesa for a Thursday evening game and Western Colorado for a Saturday afternoon contest. NMHU is 5-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

THE FEARLING FILE: Lindsey Fearing is in her first year leading the Cowgirls having been named Head Coach on May 3rd, 2024. The Black Hills State graduate picked up her first career win on November 9th when NMHU beat Western New Mexico 80-60. She recorded her first RMAC win on December 7th as the Cowgirls topped Colorado School of Mines 74-73 in overtime.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING: Junior Juliana Aragon leads the way for NMHU through ten games as she is fifth in the RMAC in scoring (15.6 per game), fifth in assists (4.6 per game) and seventh in steals (2.1/game). Aragon is also sixth in the conference with a field goal percentage of 44.6% and fourth in free throw percentage at 85.4%.

Freshman Kapiolani Anitielu is 10th in the conference in scoring at 14.7 per game, fifth with 1.2 blocked shots per game, eighth with a field goal percentage of 38.9%.

As a team, the Cowgirls are third in the RMAC in scoring at 68.9 per game and field goal percentage at 42.3%

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: Colorado Mesa enters play Thursday at 7-4 overall and 2-2 in the RMAC. They dropped a 95-81 decision to nationally ranked Pittsburg State in their last outing. Olivia Reed leads the Mavs in scoring (22.0 per game) and rebounding (11.8). Taylor Wagner is 276-88 in 13 seasons at the helm of the Colorado Mesa. Thursday's game is the 68th all-time meeting between the two schools.

Western Colorado is 8-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play heading into this weekend's games. Senior Rachel Cockman is the Mountaineers top scorer (12.6 per game) and rebounder (8.2/game). Head coach Adam Jacobson is in his third season at Western Colorado and has a career record of 21-44. The Mountaineers won the only meeting between the two teams last season 65-56 on January 20th in Gunnison.
