Spearfish, South Dakota - The Cowgirls swept Black Hills State on Saturday night to close out their road trip to South Dakota. NMHU is now 8-11 overall and 3-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while the Yellowjackets fall to 5-13 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
The Cowgirls never trailed in the match winning 25-16, 25-22, 25-16 as they recorded their first win in Spearfish since October 18, 2013.
"I am proud of the way we bounced back after last night," said head Coach
Meg Grose. "This is a really tough trip and we played well tonight. We are excited going into next week at home with a win under our belt on the road."
As a team the Cowgirls hit .287 on Saturday night, their second best effort of the season.
Aziza Morris and
Arianna Jamerson each recorded nine kills to pace the Cowgirls.
Yuli Favela hit a season's best .714 in the match.
Marissa Sandoval-Moya and
Naya Dornic had 17 assists apiece.
Becca Wiersema led NMHU 20 digs and a career high five service aces.
NMHU returns home for conference matches against Western Colorado on Friday at 6:00 pm and Fort Lewis on Saturday at 3:00 pm. The Cowgirls will host a free volleyball skills clinic after Saturday's match for kids up to the eighth grade.
