Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowgirls came away with a 3-2 (25-21, 25-19, 13-25, 23-25, 15-6) win over Western Colorado on Friday night to improve to 9-11 overall and 4-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. With the loss the Mountaineers fall to 1-18 overall and 0-9 in conference play.
Friday's match saw big momentum shifts as the Cowgirls took the two opening sets and the Mountaineers rebounded to take sets three and four.
The Cowgirls fell behind 2-0 in the deciding fifth set before rattling off four straight points to take the lead for good at 4-2.
Naya Dornic closed out the match with the final five services to give NMHU the win.
Offensively for the Cowgirls
Jaylee Gonzales tied a career high as she had 19 kills. And for the 11th time this season,
Aziza Morris was in double-figures with 12 kills.
Dornic had 25 assists and a career high four kills.
Meg Pfannerstill had a match high five service aces.
Defensively, Becca Wiersma (19),
Jaylee Gonzales (17), Abbey Carlsen (13), and
Meg Pfannerstill (12) all had double digit digs.
Aziza Morris had five blocks and
Elise Fourt added four.
The Mountaineers had the edge in hitting at .147 to .137.
Up next, the Cowgirls return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host Fort Lewis at 3:00 pm. Immediately following the match the team will host a free skills clinic for all youngsters up to the 8th grade.
