Colorado Springs, Colorado - New Mexico Highlands women's basketball earned 117 points and was tabbed for an 8th place finish in the 2025-26 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll that was released today by the conference. The poll is voted on by the 15 basketball coaches in the conference.
The Cowgirls were 13-14 overall and 10-10 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play a year ago as they advanced to the conference playoffs for the first time since the 2004-05 season.
Sophomore guard
Kapiolani Anitielu, the 2024-25 RMAC Freshman of the Year, was named to the Preseason All-RMAC Team. Anitielu averaged 16.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game as a freshman last season.
"This is the highest we have been ranked in the polls in over 20 years," said second year coach
Lindsey Fearing. "Proud of where this program took off last year and made some noise leading into this year. I'm excited for NMHU Women's Basketball and where it is headed."
NMHU opens the 2025-26 season exhibition games at Northern New Mexico on October 25th and New Mexico State on November 11th. The Cowgirls open the regular season in historic Las Vegas November 14th against Cameron in the South Central Regional Challenge.
