Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowgirls return to historic Las Vegas this weekend for a pair of conference matches hosting Western Colorado on Friday at 6:00 pm and Fort Lewis on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
NMHU is 8-11 overall and 3-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference entering this weekend's matches.
NMHU HEAD COACH:
Meg Grose is in her second season at New Mexico HIghlands. She earned her first win as the head coach of the Cowgirls over Sul Ross State on September 13th and her first conference win against Adams State on September 20th, 2024. She was previously the head coach at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.
LAST TIME OUT: The Cowgirls split their matches last weekend in South Dakota losing to South Dakota Mines 3-0 on Friday night before beating Black Hill State 3-0 on Saturday.
Yuli Favela had a big weekend as she hit a combined .667 in the two matches. Defensively, junior Becca Wiersma recorded a team high 34 digs in the matches.

Meg Grose commented, "I am proud of the way we bounced back after last night. This is a really tough trip and we played well tonight. We are excited going into next week at home with a win under our belt on the road."
LETS GO CAMPING: Cowgirl Volleyball is hosting a FREE Youth Skills Clinic following Saturday's match with Fort Lewis. The clinic is open to youngsters up to the eighth grade.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Western Colorado is 1-17 overall and 0-8 heading into Friday's match with the Cowgirls. Sonia Morales-Jones is in her first season leading the Mountaineers after a successful nine year tenure at Benedictine University Mesa. Western Colorado won both matches with the Cowgirls last season winning 3-1 in Las Vegas and 3-0 in Gunnison. Over the last 10 meetings the series is dead-locked at 5-5.
Fort Lewis is 12-5 overall and 6-2 in conference playing heading into their Friday night meeting with Adams State in Alamosa. This is the third meeting of the season between the Cowgirls and the Skyhawks. Fort Lewis beat NMHU 3-1 at the Mustang Volleyball Invitational on September 5th in Silver City and the Cowgirls took the Regional Pod meeting 3-1 on October 4th in Las Vegas. Head coach Justin Wong is in his first season at Fort Lewis. Over the last ten matches in the series Fort Lewis owns an 8-2 edge over NMHU.
PINK WEEKEND: Fans are encouraged to wear pink to this weekend's matches as NMHU Volleyball promotes breast cancer awareness.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING: As a team, the Cowgirls are second in the RMAC with 17.03 digs per set and they are second in the conference at 1.78 service aces per set.
Becca Wiersema is sixth in the RMAC with 4.19 digs per set and sixth with 0.38 service aces per set.
Meg Pfannerstill is tenth in the RMAC with 0.35 service aces per set.
The Cowgirls 20 service aces against Northwestern Oklahoma State is the most by an RMAC team this season.
