Lakewood, Colorado - Colorado Christian handed the Cowgirls a straight set loss (25-23, 25-21, 25-18) on Tuesday night that dropped NMHU to 12-14 overall and 4-8 in the RMAC. The Cougars improved to 10-14 overall and 5-7 in conference play.
The Cougars captured a tight back-and-forth opening set by scoring four of the final five points to tilt the momentum in their favor. The Cowgirls were unable to get back on track after the first match setback. Â
Aziza Morris led NMHU with 11 kills while
Jaylee Gonzales added 10.
Naya Dornic led with 20 assists.
The normally hot serving Cowgirls, who averaged 1.91 aces per set going into the match, only had two service aces on the night.
Defensively,
Jaylee Gonzales and
Becca Wiersema had 13 and 10 digs respectively to lead NMHU.
CCU out hit the Cowgirls .242 to .171 and held a 5-0 edge in blocks.
