Cowboy National Champion Inducted Into National Wrestling Hall Of Fame

Stillwater, Oklahoma - Former Cowboy Hector Hernandez was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in ceremonies last month.  Hernandez was inducted as an "Outstanding American" for his lifetime of contributions to the sport of wrestling.

A native of El Paso, Texas, Hernandez earned a wrestling scholarship to New Mexico Highlands University where he would become the Cowboy's first National Champion in 1987.  He graduated from NMHU with a Bachelor's degree in 1987 and a Master's degree two years later.

After his time in Las Vegas, Hernandez went on to enjoy a distinguished 30-year career with the U.S. Secret Service, including service in the prestigious Presidential Protective Division, where he helped protect Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. He later served as Assistant Special Agent in Charge for President Barack Obama and as Special Agent in Charge of the Vice Presidential Protective Division, becoming the first Hispanic in Secret Service history to hold this distinguished position.

Hernandez, a three-time conference champion, was inducted into the H-Club Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame in 2003. He was later named to the RMAC All-Time Wrestling Team in 2009.
