The Other Las Vegas, Nevada - New Mexico Highlands, will play two games at the Coyote Center on the campus of College of Southern Nevada during the Great Western Shootout.
COACH FEARING:
Coach Fearing enters her second year as the head coach of the Cowgirls. Last season, Coach reached the RMAC Tournament with a 13-13 record before falling to Colorado Mesa in the first round on the road. It was the first time in 20 years that a Cowgirls basketball team had reached the postseason.
RMAC COACHES POLL:Â
New Mexico Highlands women's basketball was picked 8th in the 2025-26 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, released last month. The Cowgirls were 13-14 overall and 10-10 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference last season.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Cowgirls played their first home conference game against Adams State on December 11th. Three Cowgirls finished in double-doubles, but it was not enough as the Cowgirls fell to Adams State.Â
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
The Cowgirls will open the shootout with Simon Fraser, traveling from Alberta, Canada. Simon Fraser currently sits at 6-5 overall. They are also 2-2 against the RMAC with wins over Fort Lewis and Adams State, and their two losses against RMAC teams are against Colorado Mesa. Bruce Langford is the head coach of the Red Leafs. Entering his 25th season as the head coach of Simon Fraser women's basketball.
The Cowgirls' second game will be against Western Washington, which is considered the host. The Vikings are 9-2 on the season, and one of those losses is also to Colorado Mesa. Carmen Dolfo enters her 35th season as the head coach at WWU in 2025-26 and has spent over 41 years at Western as a student-athlete, coach, and administrator. Dolfo has over 700 wins in her time.Â
