Las Vegas, New Mexico - Scott Peterson has been named the interim head coach of the New Mexico Highlands University softball program effective immediately. That announcement was made by Director of Athletics
Shanna Halalilo this morning.
Peterson was the head coach at UCCS for 15 seasons, leading the Mountain Lions to 374 wins, an RMAC regular season and tournament championship, an appearance in the NCAA playoffs and a top 10 national ranking.
"We're delighted to have Coach Peterson back in the softball program and look forward to competing the rest of the season," said Halalilo.Â
Peterson replaces Marc Benjamin who resigned his position with the university.
The Cowgirls, 6-4 on the season, open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this Friday, hosting Colorado Christian. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm.
