UCCS Edges Cowgirls Saturday Afternoon

Las Vegas, New Mexico - UCCS handed the Cowgirls a 75-72 set-back in front of a Senior Day Crowd in the Wilson Complex on Saturday afternoon. NMHU is now 13-11 overall and tied with Colorado School of Mines at 10-8 in the RMAC.

Aspen Salazar paced the Cowgirls with 18 points. Aniya Johnson was also in double figures with 16 points. Johnson also grabbed a team high seven rebounds.

Juliana Aragon handed out a game high seven assists.

UCCS held a 35-28 lead at the halftime break and pushed that lead to 11 points at the 5:25 mark of the third quarter. The Cowgirls battled back and scored 13 unanswered points, capped off by a Juliana Aragon layup to take a 45-43 lead with 1:42 to go in the quarter. That would be their final lead, however, as the Mountain Lions retook the lead 47-45 at the end of the third quarter and outscored NMHU 28-27 in the fourth quarter to secure the 75-72 win.

With Saturday's win in historic Las Vegas, UCCS swept the season's meeting with the Cowgirls.

Prior to the game, seniors Emily Burke and Eva Ongoongotau were honored as part of Senior Day presented by Quality Care.

The Cowgirls head to South Dakota to close out the regular season playing at South Dakota Mines on Thursday night at 5:30 pm before facing Black Hills State at 1:00 pm Saturday afternoon.
