Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowboys split a Saturday doubleheader as they won the first game in dramatic fashion 7-3 before falling in the nightcap 17-4. NMHU is now 9-18 and 1-10 in conference play.
Roman Robles launched a one out grand slam over the left field fence to propel the Cowboys to the 7-4 win in Saturday's opener. His second home run of the season scored
Gael Bernal,
Carlos Chavez, and
RJ Abernathy and gave Robles his fifth RBI of the game.
In addition to the effort by Robles,
Forrest Simpson and
Lubby Marrujo each recorded multi hit games for the Cowboys.
Ramon Brion got the start and went five and third innings and allowed just one run.
Matthew Wilson picked up the win in relief.
Game two saw UCCS jump on the Cowboys early as they scored 12 runs in the first three innings to put the game out of reach.
Forrest Simpson was four for four in game two and seven for eight on the day.
Lubby Marrujo and
Roman Robles each recorded two hits in the second game.
The Cowboys go for a series split on Sunday afternoon. First pitch at Brandt Field is 12:00 pm.
