Grand Junction, Colorado - Colorado Mesa took both ends of Sunday's doubleheader from the Cowboys by scores of 12-1 in the opening game and 10-3 in the nightcap. NMHU is now 8-11 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
In Sunday's first game the Mavericks did their damage early scoring at least two runs in the games first five innings. The Cowboys got on the board when
Carlos Chavez doubled to lead off the fourth inning, The very next batter,
Forrest Simpson, singled him in for NMHU's lone run of the game.
The second game saw NMHU jump out to an early 2-0 lead as they plated a pair of runs in their half of the first inning.
Forrest Simpson doubled in
Gael Bernal and then
Benny Martinez singled in
Ryan Callanan for the early lead. The third run of the day came courtesy of another
Forrest Simpson RBI, this time scoring
RJ Abernathy.
The series finale is Monday with first pitch set for 12:00 pm.
