Denver, Colorado - The Cowboys dropped a pair of games at MSU-Denver on Sunday afternoon losing the opener 20-8 and the second contest 12-10. NMHU is now 9-21 overall and 1-13 in conference play.
Roman Robles got the Cowboys on the board early in the opener when he doubled in
Gael Bernal and
Richie Amavizca in the opening inning. After the Roadrunners tied it with two runs in their half of the first, NMHU put up three runs in the top of the second on RBIs off the bats of
Lubby Marrujo,
Gael Bernal, and
Tucker Simpson.
The hosts put the game out of reach scoring eight runs in the third, five in the sixth, and another five in the seventh en route to the victory.
Gael Bernal and
Ryan Callanan each recorded three hits in the game.
Game two saw NMHU jump out to a 3-0 lead after three and half inning as
Gael Bernal homered in the third and
Tony Leger went yard in the fourth.
With the Roadrunners leading 9-5 after five innings the Cowboys responded with five runs in the top of the sixth inning highlighted by homers from
Seth Galfano and
Bryant O'Neil.
Trailing 12-10 in the top of the seventh inning, the Cowboys loaded the bases but could not push across another run.
Bryant O'Neil led the way offensively going three for four and recording four RBI.
The two teams play a doubleheader on Monday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 pm.
