Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowboys split Friday's doubleheader with visiting Colorado Christian winning the first game 12-6 before dropping the second game 23-14. NMHU is now 12-24 overall and 4-26 in conference play.
In Friday's opener, the Cowboys used a blanched offensive attack to score twelve runs on sixteen hits. After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning the Cowboys recaptured the lead with a pair of runs in their half of the first and never trailed from that point.
Gael Bernal,
Forrest Simpson,
Carlos Chavez, and
Richie Amavizca all homered for the Cowboys. Simpson was four for five with three RBI and Bernal was three for five with four RBI.
Jimi Welsher got the start and went seven innings to pick up the win for the Cowboys while
Anthony Reyes pitched two innings of scoreless relief.
In Friday's second game the score was tied 10-10 at the end of the third inning, however, the visitors stayed hot at the plate en route to the win.
Bryant O'Neil and
Richie Amavizca each homered for NMHU in the second game.
Heading into the final day of the season, O'Neil is tied for sixth in the RMAC with 14 homer runs on the season.
The Cowboys close out the 2025 campaign with a doubleheader against the visiting Cougars on Saturday, first pitch is set for 12:00 pm. Thanks to our partners at Quality Care, there is free admission to Saturday's games. Additionally, the 2025 seniors will be honored after Saturday's second game.
