Colorado Springs, Colorado - New Mexico Highlands was selected to finish ninth in the 2026 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason Softball Coaches' Poll, released Tuesday by the league office.
The Cowgirls totaled 35 points in the vote of the league's 12 head coaches after posting a 15-28 overall record and a 9-35 mark in RMAC play during the 2025 season.
New Mexico Highlands enters the 2026 campaign under new leadership, as
Kali Pugh takes over the reins of the Cowgirl softball program. Pugh comes to NMHU from Yavapai College (Ariz.), where she guided the Roughriders to the 2025 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference playoffs-marking the program's first postseason appearance since 2022.
New Mexico Highlands opens the 2026 season on January 30th in Los Lunas, facing nationally ranked West Texas A&M at 3:00 pm. Â
