MSU-Denver Sweeps Friday Doubleheader

Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowboys dropped both ends of a Friday  RMAC doubleheader to MSU Denver at Brandt Field, falling 3-2 in game one before a 17-2 loss in game two.

MSU Denver improved to 27-6 overall and 15-0 in the RMAC, while New Mexico Highlands moves to 6-27 overall and 1-14 in conference play.

Game One: MSU Denver 3, New Mexico Highlands 2

The Cowboys carried a late lead into the seventh inning, but MSU Denver used a two-run frame to secure a 3-2 win in the opener.

New Mexico Highlands struck first in the fourth inning as Jeremiah D'Arezzo doubled down the right field line to bring home a run. Isaac McNair-Seigler followed with an RBI single to push the Cowboys lead to 2-0.

Ramon Brion delivered a strong outing on the mound, going the distance while allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out seven. His seven strikeouts marked a season high.

MSU Denver got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the sixth before taking advantage of a Cowboys error in the seventh to tie the game. A second sacrifice fly later in the inning provided the difference.

Ryan Rodriguez and McNair-Seigler each recorded two hits to lead the Cowboys.

Game Two: MSU Denver 17, New Mexico Highlands 2

MSU Denver used a six-run first inning to take control early and pulled away for a 17-2 win in the nightcap.

The Roadrunners added to their lead throughout, limiting any chance for a Cowboys comeback.

New Mexico Highlands broke through in the fifth on a solo home run from Seth Galfano and added another run in the sixth on an RBI single by Taiga Sato.

Brennan Carbonell recorded a double as the Cowboys finished with 10 hits, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

New Mexico Highlands and MSU Denver will conclude the four-game series Sunday at 12:00 pm at Brandt Field.
