The NMHU Cowgirls Volleyball team hosted some great competition from the state of Nebraska in the John A Wilson Complex on 10/9 and 10/10. The Cowgirls faced the #4 Lopers from the University of Nebraska-Kearney on 10/9 and then would face the Eagles from Chadron State College on 10/10. Both games ended in 3-0 Cowgirl losses.
The Cowgirls took on the University Nebraska Kearney Lopers, the #4 team in the nation at the NCAA Division II level. The Cowgirls showed potential but fell in 3 sets with scores of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-16.
Leading the Cowgirls efforts was Dominique Benton with 7 kills and 2 assisted blocks. The Cowgirls had 23 kills and 4 blocks on the night as the Lopers had 39 kills and 7 total blocks.
The Cowgirls then took on the Chadron State College Eagles and kept the momentum going from the night before. The Cowgirls tried to fight off the Eagles but the Eagles won in 3 sets with scores of 25-23, 25-23, and 28-26.
True Freshman Kelsey Spence made her presence known on the court as she got a career high 17 digs. Doreen Zamora led the Cowgirls with 9 kills and Krista Kallish was right behind her with 8 kills. Benton again led the Cowgirls defense with 3 solo blocks and 1 assisted block.
The Cowgirls will continue their home stint with four more home games in RMAC play before ending their season on the road.
