The NMHU Cowgirls continued their winning ways on 11/28 as they defeated the Mustangs of the University of the Southwest by a final score of 62-50. The Cowgirls are now 3-0 on the season heading into Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. This is the best start for the Cowgirls under second year head coach Tiffany Darling. The Cowgirls will have a week to rest their legs as they gear up for a two game swing as they travel to Kearney, Neb. to take on the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers on 12/4 and then travel to Chadron, Neb. to take on the Eagles of Chadron State College on 12/5.
“This is a great start for us. We are playing with confidence and are playing together. USW is a tough team and we played our game and got the win. Next week when we play Kearney is going be a great test for our girls. They are a top team in the RMAC, so it should be a great game” said NMHU Head Coach Tiffany Darling of her Cowgirls 62-50 win over USW.
Leading the Cowgirls was Jessica Armijo with 16 points. Armijo leads the Cowgirls in total points on the season with 59 points in three games for a 19.7 points per game average. Armijo is number two in the RMAC in total points as well. Armijo also added in four rebounds, three assists and one steal in the Cowgirls win over USW.
Other outstanding performers include: Briana Gholston and Oliana Seanoa. Gholston recorded a double-double in the win with a career high 15 rebounds and 12 points. Gholston also added in two assists and one steal. Seanoa finished the night with 12 points, four rebounds, one assist and two steals.
The Cowgirls will be on the road on 12/4 as they head on a two RMAC game swing as they travel to Kearney, Neb. to take on the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers on 12/4 and then travel to Chadron, Neb. to take on the Eagles of Chadron State College on 12/5. Both games are scheduled for a 6:00pm tip off. The UNK game is scheduled for 6:00pm CST.
