The #7 NMHU Cowboys continued their winning ways on 5/7 as they braved the elements to claim their third straight victim in the RMAC Tournament by dropping the Lopers of the University of Nebraska-Kearney 6-4. The Cowboys would jump out to an early 2-0 lead, but the Lopers would answer back with a big three run third inning in which the Cowboys answered back with one run in the bottom of the third to tie it up at three runs apiece. The Lopers would take the lead late in the seventh inning 4-3, but the Cowboys would again answer back with three runs of their won in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win and their spot in the RMAC Championship Game for the fourth year straight. The Cowboys are now 38-10 overall in the 2010 season.
The Cowboys finished the day batting .300 as a team and finished with one homerun. Outstanding performers for the Cowboys include:
Jason Carr,
Danny Brown and
Brad Morgan. Carr finished the day going 1-1 with three runs scored, one RBI and one homerun. Brown finished 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Morgan finished 2-4 and two RBI's.
Getting the win on the mound for the Cowboys was
Trent Evins (7-1). Evins allowed just four runs on 10 hits in seven and one-third innings pitched and recorded one strikeout en route to his seventh win of the season.
Tyler Wichmann came in for two-thirds of an inning and allowed no runs and no hits.
Tyler Shaddy earned his fourth save of the season as he came in for the final inning and shut down the Lopers by not allowing any hits in three batters faced.
The Cowboys will now wait to see who their opponent will be in the RMAC Championship Game as three teams (CSU-Pueblo, Mesa State College and the University of Nebraska-Kearney) are all battling for the chance to play the Cowboys for the RMAC Tournament Championship.
