The Cowgirl Volleyball team closed out the I.C. Bhakta Cowgirl Invitational on 9/11 but it wasn't without theatrics as the Cowgirls took both of their games into the fifth set.
First up for the Cowgirls were, in-state rival, the Eastern New Mexico Zias. The Cowgirls took the early lead as they won the first set 25-15. The Zias answered back with a second set of 25-13. The Cowgirls then took the third set 25-21 but fell again to the Zias in the fourth set, 25-21. The Cowgirls were able to pull their game back together in the fifth set as they won 15-13.
Sarah Dirmeyer led the Cowgirls with 24 kills, 2 aces and 5 blocks.
Emma Dickinson was the digs leader with 14 as
Whitney Taylor had 33 assists.
The Cowgirls then took on the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State for the last game of the tournament. The Cowgirls would do the same as they did in their previous game and take the Aggies to five sets. The game seemed to go back and forth for its entirety.
The most either team won by was seven points. The Cowgirls took the first game 25- 18, and then the Aggies took the second game 25-17. The Cowgirls took the third set 25-17, giving the Aggies a taste of their own medicine. In the fourth set, the Aggies won 25-23 and then the Cowgirls won the fifth set 15-13.
Darian Mullen led the Cowgirls with 13 kills and an ace while Taylor had 28 assists.
Kelsey Groff led the Cowgirls' defense with four blocks.
The Cowgirls are now 4-5 on the season as they go into RMAC play. The Cowgirls will take their show on the road to take on the Lopers of the University of Nebraska- Kearney on 9/ 16.
