The Cowgirl Soccer team took to the field on 9/ 12 against the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State before beginning RMAC play.
The Cowgirls lost to the Bulldogs with a final score of 3-2 but it wasn't without a fight. The Cowgirls took the early lead as
Ariana Strickland scored on a
Susannah Hertz assist from the right side. They kept it up as the 25th minute approached.
Heidi Nakaoka connected to
Tierra Saban for a goal putting the Cowgirls up 2-0 going into the half.
In the beginning of the second half Saban dribbled the ball up the side alone and took a shot on the goal and scored, but after an official ruled it an “obstruction”, the goal was not counted. The Cowgirls would not score again for the remainder of the game. The Bulldogs scored all three of their goals within nine minutes of each other.
The Cowgirls had 13 fouls called, with two yellow cards issued while the Bulldogs had a whopping 20 fouls but went without any yellow card citations. Both teams were equal on shots with 17 apiece.
Scottie Prince spent the entire game in the net for the Cowgirls and grabbed eight saves with three goals allowed. One of those saves came in the form of a penalty shot after the Cowgirls fouled a Bulldog player.
Head Coach
Justin Wagar said, “We played a good game but it is hard to win a game when there are obvious home field advantages, had the obstruction call not been made, we would have taken the lead at 3-0.”
They Cowgirls are now 2-2 overall. They will begin RMAC play as they play host to the Colorado Christian Cougars on 9/17 at Perkins Stadium. Come out to support your Cowgirls with kick-off at 4:00 pm.
