#7 Shelby Hoffman (left) and #2 Ashley Paiz (right)
The NMHU Cowgirls split the first double header of their RMAC series with University of Nebraska Kearney, on 4/22, behind Cowgirl pitcher Ashley Paiz's superb strike out performance. The Lopers got off to a fast start scoring four runs in the first inning of game one. The Cowgirls rallied in the third inning putting up three runs, including Alyssa Ramirez's two run double, making the score 4-3. In the top of the sixth inning a two run home run by UNK's Sarah Rome extended the Loper's lead to three runs, 6-3. The Cowgirls scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and another in the bottom of the seventh from a home run by Shelby Hoffman, but it would not be enough as the Lopers took game one by the final score of 6-5. In game two, the Cowgirls broke a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring two runs to take the lead 2-0. The Cowgirls kept the pressure up in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring two more runs to take a 4-0 lead. In the top of the sixth inning the Lopers rallied to score two runs with a home run and an RBI double, making the score 4-2 in favor of the Cowgirls. Ashley Paiz pitched out of a bases loaded jam to end the sixth inning. Paiz's pitching proved to be too much for the Lopers as she shut them down in the seventh inning to secure the complete game victory for the Cowgirls by the final score of 4-2. With the conference split against UNK the Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Shellie Broyles, improve to a 6-28 record in the RMAC and 10-37 in overall play.

She threw a complete seven innings from the pitcher's circle, faced 29 batters, and allowed two runs on only three hits. Paiz struck out 11 batters, walked one, and allowed only one earned run in her impressive performance in the Cowgirls' victory.
