The NMHU Cowgirls dropped both games of their second road double header against CSU-Pueblo. The Cowgirls scored first in game one, getting one run in the top of the first inning, but the Thunderwolves came right back in the bottom of the inning with six runs. CSU-Pueblo kept scoring runs in the game to take the victory 12-4 in six innings. In game two, the Cowgirls scored a run in the first and third innings to take the 2-0 lead, then the Thunderwolves scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead 3-2. The Cowgirls tied the game up at three apiece in the top of the fifth inning, but once again CSU-Pueblo answered with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Thunderwolves won game two of the double header by the final score of 6-3. With the two conference losses to the Thunderwolves the Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Shellie Broyles, fall to a 3-21 record in the RMAC and 6-29 in overall play.
Melissa Martinez (4-17) was the losing pitcher for the Cowgirls in game one. She pitched five and a third innings from the pitcher's circle, allowing 12 runs on 11 hits. Martinez faced 35 batters, walked six, and struck out four, in the losing effort.
The Cowgirls looked good in the batter's box in game one hitting for a .357 team batting average.
Roxanne Avalos,
Kristy Partridge and
Samantha Butler were the team leaders on offense in game one. Avalos went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI, and one run scored. Partridge was also 2-3 at the plate with a double and one run scored. Butler hit 2-4 from the batter's box and scored one run.
Ashley Paiz (2-11) was credited with the loss in game two of the day. She threw six innings from the pitcher's circle, allowing six runs on eight hits. Paiz faced 30 batters in the game, walked two, struck out one and had two balks.
The Cowgirls had another good game offensively in the second game of the double header going 10-29 at the plate for a .345 team batting average.

Ashley Paiz, and
Samantha Butler were the leaders on offense for the Cowgirls in game two. Partridge was 2-3 with a walk from the batter's box. She scored two runs and had a double in game two. Paiz went 2-4 at the plate with a triple and one run scored. Butler hit 2-4 at the plate with an RBI.
The NMHU Cowgirls will continue conference action next weekend, 4/9-10, as they travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. to face two RMAC opponents in conference pod play at Mountain Lion Field. The Cowgirls will play University of Colo.-Colo. Springs in Saturday's double header. The Mountain Lions are in last place in the RMAC East Division with a 9-13 RMAC record and 12-19 in overall play. On Sunday, 4/10, the Cowgirls will play Chadron State College in a double header also at Mountain Lion Field in Colo. Springs, Colo. The Eagles are in fourth place in the RMAC East Division with an 11-3 conference record and 13-18 in overall play. The first game on Saturday, 4/9, against the Mountain Lions is scheduled to begin at 2pm. The first game on Sunday, 4/10, against the Eagles is scheduled for an 11am start time. The second game of both double headers will start shortly after the completion of game one.
