Cowboys Escape Series Sweep with 7-1 Victory Over UNK

The NMHU Cowboys managed to elude a series sweep by the Lopers of the University of Nebraska-Kearney with their -1 victory of the Lopers on 5/1 in Kearney, Neb. The Lopers had defeated the Cowboys in the first three games of the series by final scores of 8-1, 8-1 and 5-3. The Cowboys would jump out early on the Lopers in game four by taking a 4-0 lead after the first three inning played to cruise to the 7-1 victory. With the win the Cowboys improve to 20-24 overall and 14-21 in RMAC play.

The Cowboys would finish the day with a .444 team batting average. The Cowboys would add in three doubles and one homerun to their offensive stats for the day. Ben Swisher, Erik Scott and Thomas King would lead the Cowboys offensively in game four. Swisher finished the day 4-5 with run one run scored. Scott would have the high numbers for the day as he finished the day 2-5 with one run scored, two RBI's, one double and the Cowboys lone homerun of the day. King would round out the top three performers going 2-3 with two RBI's and one double.

Edgar Vela (2-3) got the start and the win on the mound for the Cowboys. Vela would hold the Lopers to just one run scored on five hits and strike out three UNK batters in six and two third innings pitched. Richard Sandoval would then come in for Vela and face two batters. Xavier Tavorn would then come in for Sandoval and shut down the Lopers as he allowed no runs on no hits and struck out one batter in one and one third innings pitched. Jared Bowser would close out the game for the Cowboys as he struck out the side in the ninth inning allowing no runs and no hits to secure the 7-1 win for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys will close out their regular season as they host the Cougars of Colorado Christian University for their final series of the year on 5/5 in Las Vegas, N.M. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
