The NMHU Women's Soccer Program will begin its season Saturday, 9/2, as they host the NCAA DII third ranked team College of Saint Rose. The Golden Knights will travel to Las Vegas to play the Cowgirls in a 7pm start time to the match held at Perkins Stadium.
The Cowgirls are led by RMAC pre-season Player of the Year
Julissa Rodriguez. The senior Forward will lead the Cowgirls against a strong Golden Knights team that returns 18 players from last year's team that compiled a 23-1-1 record on their way to a third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament appearance. College of Saint Rose has been ranked in the NCAA DII pre-season top ten for four years in a row.
Cowgirls Head Coach
Justin Wagar has bolstered the roster with plenty of quality additions including junior Defender
Jensen Keith. With all the new players adding to a strong returning line-up, Coach Wagar has his eyes set on the RMAC conference title. The Cowgirls finished last season in third place in the RMAC with a 9-3-2 conference record and 12-7-2 in overall play. Last season was one of the best in Cowgirl soccer history which included their first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament.
Saturday's match will be preceded by a 3:30pm start time of a showdown between RMAC side Adams State Grizzlies and the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) Cougars. This game is slated to be played at the neutral site of Perkins Stadium in Las Vegas, N.M. The Cowgirls will be continuing their start to the season on Monday, 9/5, as they play host to the USF Cougars at Perkins Stadium. The match on Monday has a start time of 12pm.
