The NMHU Cowboys fell for the first time in RMAC action as the Lopers of the University of Nebraska-Kearney defeated the Pokes 12-2 on 3/11 in Kearney, Neb. The Cowboys won the four game series between the two RMAC heavyweights three games to one over the Lopers. The Pokes currently sit atop the RMAC Plains Division with a 13-2 overall record and a 7-1 mark in RMAC play.
“Kearney is a very good team and just out played us today. I'm very happy to be going home winning three out of four games against a very good UNK team,” commented NMHU Head Coach

Chris Prokupek (2-1) got the start for the Cowboys on the mound. Prokupek allowed five earned runs on eight hits in four innings pitched.
Jason Sirak came in for relief of Prokupek and allowed four earned runs on five hits in one-third of an inning pitched.
Richard Sandoval would then come in for Sirak and allow no earned runs on two hits while striking out five UNK batters in two and two-third innings pitched.
Mike McDermott closed out the game for the Pokes allowing no earned runs on two hits while striking out one batter in one inning pitched.
The Cowboys struggled offensively against the Lopers in their final game of the series. As a team the Pokes finished with a .133 batting average for the day.
AJ Alexander and
Eric Maupin led the Cowboys in hitting for the game. Alexander finished the game going 1-3 with one run scored and one double. Maupin finished 1-3 with one run scored, one RBI and the Cowboys lone homerun of the day.
The Cowboys won't have much rest coming back from their Nebraska road swing as they hit the road again on 3/13 to take on in-state rival, the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, N.M. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
