Cowboys Drop Lopers 10-8

The NMHU Cowboys remain unbeaten in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play after defeating the Lopers of the University of Nebraska-Kearney by a final score of 10-8 on 3/9 in Kearney, Neb. The Cowboys never trailed against the Lopers as they jumped out to an early lead 4-2 after the second inning. The Pokes increased their lead by scoring four runs in the top of the fourth inning, one run in the seventh and ninth innings to cruise to their eleventh win of the season 10-8 over UNK. With the win, the Cowboys improve to 11-1 on the season and 5-0 in RMAC play.

"We had our best game of the year offensively and played with very good energy today. We need to get better in a couple areas, but I'm confident that we will continue to improve," commented NMHU Head Coach Steve Jones of his Cowboys after their 10-8 win over the Lopers of the University of Nebraska-Kearney on3/9.

Greg Fowler (3-0) got the win for the Cowboys on the mound. Fowler allowed four earned runs on nine hits while striking out four batters in five and two-third innings pitched. Jason Sirak came in for relief of Fowler against UNK and allowed one earned run off of three hits and struck out four UNK batters in three innings pitched. Oscar Almeida closed out the game for the Pokes facing one batter to secure his first save of the season.

Offensive leaders for the Cowboys include: AJ Alexander, Matt Gualco and Josh McMahon. Alexander finished the day going 4-6 with two runs scored, two RBI's and one triple. Gualco finished 4-6 with one run scored and McMahon went 2-4 on the day with one run scored, one RBI and one double.

The Cowboys look to continue their RMAC winning streak as they continue their four game series with a double-header against the Lopers on 3/10. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
