The NMHU Cowboys completed their series sweep of the Lopers of the University of Nebraska-Kearney with a 10-5 win on 4/29 in front of a great home crowd in their final home series of the season. The Pokes celebrated their seniors in their final home series of the season and sent them off in style with the win. The Cowboys will be graduating 10 seniors from their program this season. With the win, the Cowboys improve to 33-12 on the season and 26-10 in RMAC play. The Cowboys have clinched the RMAC Plains Division title with one week left in the regular season.
Jason Sirak (4-1) got the start and win on the mound for the Pokes in his final game started in Brandt Park. Sirak allowed three runs on six hits and struck out three UNK batters in six innings pitched. Fellow senior,
David Saiz came in for relief of Sirak in the seventh inning. Saiz allowed held the Lopers to just two runs on five hits and struck out one UNK batter in three innings pitched.
Jordan Falcon led the way for the Pokes offensively. Falcon finished the day going 3-4 from the batter's box with one triple, one run scored and two RBI's.
Luis Saenz comes in second for the Cowboys offensively. Saenz finished the day going 3-5 with two runs scored and three RBI's.
Kyle Davis rounds out the top performers for the Cowboys finishing 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
The Cowboys will close out their regular season on the road as they travel to Lakewood, Colo. on 5/4 for a four game series with the Cougars of Colorado Christian University. First pitch of the series is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on 5/4.
