Rangers Corral Cowgirls, 70-60

#10 Eboni Jacobs
Box Score Denver, Colo. – The NMHU Cowgirl Basketball team lost their road game against the Rangers of Regis University, on 1/5, by the final score of 70-60.  With the loss the Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Tiffany Darling, fall to a 3-5 record in the RMAC and 3-9 in overall play.

The home-court advantage was apparent from the get-go, as the Rangers quickly built up an 8-0 lead before the Cowgirls could get on the scoreboard.  China Smith broke the ice for the Cowgirls with a free-throw shot three minutes into the game.

Unfortunately, the Cowgirls would be playing catch-up for the remainder of the contest, because Regis would never relinquish the lead on their home court.  The Cowgirls did make many attempts to surmount their scoring deficit and managed to cut the Regis lead to just five points (33-28) at halftime.

Kelsey Asplund further cut down the lead to three points when she opened up the second-half scoring for the Cowgirls with a lay-up.  However, the Cowgirls struggled to make shots in the second half and Regis began to extend their lead into double-digits, leading by as much as 15 points.  When the final buzzer sounded, Regis had captured the win on their home court by the final score of 70-60.

Alyssa Lopez was once again the top performer for the Cowgirls.  Lopez led all scorers in the game with 26 points in her complete 40 minutes of play.  The “Silent Assassin” made 11 of her 23 field goal attempts, including 2-6 from three-point range.  Lopez would also add three assists, three rebounds and two steals during the game.

Eboni Jacobs had a decent performance for the Cowgirls in her 33 minutes on the court, scoring 15 points while shooting 5-13 from the field.  Jacobs was perfect from the free-throw line (4-4) and three-point range (1-1) while also grabbing four rebounds in the contest.

The Cowgirls struggled to make shots as a team, only converting 36.9% of their field goal attempts and less than 60% of their free throws.  This prevented them from overcoming their slow start and allowed Regis to take the victory.

The Cowgirls will continue conference action again next Friday (1/11) when they travel to Durango, Colo. to take on the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College.  The Skyhawks are currently in eighth place in the RMAC with a 3-3 conference record and 4-6 in overall play.  The game is set for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off time, with the Cowboys' game to begin shortly after.  If you can't make the trip up to Durango to watch your Cowgirls in action, you can click HERE to follow the game via Live Stats.  If you would like to watch the game live via internet stream, you can click HERE to catch the feed on the America One Network.
