Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M- The New Mexico Highlands University women's basketball team fell to Western New Mexico University in today's, (Dec. 5) game at John Wilson Complex. The Cowgirls fall to an overall record 2-3, Rocky Mountain Conference 0-1.
In the first quarter, the Cowgirls came out strong and within four minutes of the game had a 9-0 run. Sophomore
Michelle Tapia got your Cowgirls going with some great finishes in the paint. Then Senior
Michelle Traynham hit some shots to help with the run. The Mustangs battled back with some shoots from behind the arc. The Cowgirls went into the second quarter up 19-11.
Traynham got to the hole and finished a trip to help the Cowgirl get up by 15 with 7:20 left in the 2
nd quarter. Then the Mustangs came back by making four triples and getting to the free throw line. With 50 seconds left in the half the Cowgirls lead with three to go.

The Mustangs came out of the locker room ready and started the second half with two straight jumpers to grab their first lead of the game. After that Traynham answered with a nice layup in the paint to regain the lead. Both team were attacking the basket and finishing well. At the end of the third quarter, the Cowgirls found themselves down by four. 54-50
In the last quarter, The Mustangs continued to hit shoots and with 6:20 left the Cowgirls were down 64-55. The Cowgirls struggled towards the end and that's when the Mustangs took off with the win.
