Cowboys hit the road for non-RMAC matchup at Kingsville

LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- Two teams looking to break two-game skids hit the field 7 p.m. Saturday as the New Mexico Highlands football team travels to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville at Pepsi Field and Javelina Stadium in a non-RMAC contest.

The second quarter turned out to be the downfall for the Cowboys in a 43-14 loss last week to No. 17 Colorado School of Mines as they were outscored 20-7 in the period and trailed 27-7 at the half.

Danny Cameron went 14-for-32 for 162 yards and a score in the game while D.J. McFadden had a team-best eight catches for 67 yards and a score while Devon Henderson had five receptions for a team-high 75 yards. Dione Alston, the conference's leading rusher heading into the contest, was held to 27 yards while Kamari Mosby led the team with 66 yards on the ground. Malik Brown had a team-high 14 tackles while Eli Schoettmer added eight.

On the season, Cameron has completed 56.7 percent of his passes for 903 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. His top targets have been McFadden (20 catches, 271 yards, 3 TDs) and Devon Henderson (15 receptions, 225 yards, 2 TDs). Dione Alston continues to lead the team in rushing at 467 yards (116.8 per game) while Dazmon Scott (138 yards) and Mosby (124 yards) are also over the 100-yard mark. Defensively, Schoettmer has a team-best 37 tackles while Brown has 31 (to go along with two interceptions and three pass breakups) and C.J. Waite is at 27 tackles.
 
ABOUT TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE (1-3) | SEASON STATS
The Javelinas were tied with Eastern New Mexico at 14-14 early in the third quarter after falling behind 14-0, but were outscored 17-0 the rest of the way and lost to the Greyhounds, 31-14. Koy Detmer Jr. finished with 158 yards passing, a touchdown and two interceptions for TAMUK while Nick Pelrean led the team in both receiving (four receptions, 49 yards) and rushing (37 yards, one touchdown).

TAMUK has played a tough early schedule, with a double-overtime loss to then No. 1 Texas A&M-Commerce (37-36) in its opener, a win over Texas Wesleyan (52-10) and a 30-14 loss at Angelo State.

On the season, Detmer Jr. is completing 58.3 percent of his passes for 694 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions. His top receiver on the season has been Aaron Dilworth with 12 catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Only one other receiver has more than 100 yards receiving on the season (Devin Milburn with 125) as 14 different players have caught a pass this season for TAMUK. Pelrean leads the team in rushing at 201 yards and three scores while Jeff Carr isn't far behind with 178 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Tre'Michael Tutt leads the team with 34 tackles while Devonte Williams has been an overall disruptive defender with 24 tackles (five for a loss), three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three broken up passes and an interception.

SERIES HISTORY
This will be the first game between these two teams since 1972 and third game overall. The Javelinas beat the Cowboys 30-6 in 1972 and again 28-23 in 1969 (an NAIA Semifinals game) - with both games played in Kingsville.
