LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands women's basketball team plays its final two home games of the season as the Cowgirls host MSU Denver on Friday and celebrate their two seniors Saturday prior to taking on Chadron State.
THE COWGIRLS COMING INTO THIS WEEK | SEASON STATS
The Cowgirls dropped a pair of road games last week, falling at Colorado School of Mines on Friday 71-59 and to UC Colorado Springs on Saturday 71-62. In the loss to Mines,
Jordyn Lewis paced the Cowgirls with 19 points and
Allyah George added 16 while in the loss to UCCS
Amari Terry had a team-high 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists while
Brianna Stewart had 15 points and George had 14.
Lewis continues to lead the Cowgirls in scoring at 13.8 points per game (ninth in the RMAC) while George is second on the team at 10.9 points while leading the team in rebounding at 5.8 per game.
The Cowgirls defeated Chadron State on the road earlier this season 58-56 with Lewis leading the way with 19 poinst points (4-for-7 from 3-point range) while George had 15 points. NMHU lost to MSU Denver on the road 81-41.
ABOUT MSU DENVER | SEASON STATS
The Roadrunners won a pair of games last week to snap a two-game losing skid, beating Black Hills State 62-50 on Friday and a 70-58 win over South Dakota Mines on Saturday. Jaelynn Smith led the Roadrunners in the win over the Yellow Jackets with 17 points while adding seven rebounds and seven assists while Emily Hartegan led MSU Denver in the win over South Dakota Mines with 23 points to go along with nine rebounds while Smith nearly had a triple-double with 12 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds. On the season, Smith leads the team in scoring (15.8), assists (5.9) and steals (1.9) while she's second on the team in rebounding at 5.7 per contest.
ABOUT CHADRON STATE | SEASON STATS
The Eagles dropped a pair of games last week, falling at home to South Dakota Mines (64-52) on Friday and to Black Hills State (85-57) on Saturday. Jori Peters led the Eagles with 10 points on Friday in the loss to the Hardrockers while Taryn Foxen came off the bench and led Chadron State with 16 points and seven rebounds in the loss to the Yellow Jackets on Saturday.
The Eagles head into Friday night's contest with CSU-Pueblo on a six-game losing skid. Foxen leads Chadron State in scoring at 11.3 points per game while Jessica Harvey is also averaging double figures at 10.5 per game.
