NMHU's Francis named NCBWA, D2CCA All-American

LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The fantastic season of New Mexico Highlands senior Auggie Francis was recognized on a nation-wide level this week as the Cowboy center fielder was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association and the D2CCA 2019 All-America Third Teams.

Francis is the first Cowboy to make first, second or third-team All-American since Jason Carr was named to the NCBWA All-America First Team in 2010.

Francis was one of five RMAC players named to one of the NCBWA All-America teams along with MSU Denver catcher Matt Malkin (first team), Dixie State designated hitter Jake Engel (first team), Colorado Mesa reliever Will Dixon (first team) and Colorado School of Mines outfielder Trevor Kehe (second team). The South Central Region - which includes the RMAC, Lone Star Conference and the Heartland Conference - swept the NCBWA national awards with Angelo State's Josh Elvir named Player of the Year, West Texas A&M's Joe Corbett named Pitcher of the Year and CMU's Chris Hanks named Coach of the Year.

Francis was one of five RMAC players to make the D2CCA All-American teams along with Engel (first team), Dixon (first team), UCCS shortstop Matt McDermott (second team) and MSU Denver pitcher/outfielder Logan Soole (second team).

Francis was also named to the 2019 South Central-ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team this week.

Francis finished the regular season first in the RMAC in batting average (.434), on-base percentage (.524), runs (70), hits (82), triples (8) and being hit by pitches (14) while also ranking in the RMAC top 10 in slugging percentage (.751 - fourth), home runs (11 - ninth) and stolen bases (21) to go along with 41 RBI and 11 doubles. Nationally, Francis after the regular season ranked ninth in NCAA Division II in batting average, fourth in hits, third in runs and triples, seventh in total bases.

Along with these honors Wednesday, Francis this season was named NCBWA South Central All-Region First Team, D2CCA All-South Central Region First Team, RMAC Co-Player of the Year, RMAC Academic Player of the Year, a RMAC Gold Glove winner, a two-time RMAC Player of the Week and the NCBWA South Central Region and National Player of the Week during the final week of the regular season.
