Alamosa, CO --- The NMHU Cowboys (0-2, 0-2) lost to conference foe Adams State(1-1, 1-1) Grizzlies, 41-27 at Rex Field in Alamosa, CO.
On their opening play of the game,
Kam Mosby of the Cowboys fumbled the ball, which was recovered by Adams St. The Grizzlies were able to cash in on the turnover and score on a 15-yard touchdown pass from John Buksa to Ian Fryday. The Cowboys would respond with a 2 play, 75 yard touchdown drive, as Mosby fueled the drive with a 66-yard touchdown carry, to tie the game at 7-7.
The Grizzlies would take a 14-7 lead as Buksa would throw for his second touchdown of the day; a 73-yard touchdown pass to Tariq Bitson. The Cowboys would add a 36-yard field goal by kicker Isreal Farfan, to make the score 14-10 at the end of the first quarter.
  Both teams were able to tighten up defensively, as the only scoring in the second quarter, came on field-goals from each team. The Grizzlies converted on a 43-yard field goal and Farfan was able to connect on a 26-yard field goal. The Grizzlies would lead 17-13 going in to the half.
The Cowboys defense came out strong after half, as they forced the Grizzles to punt on their opening drive. The Cowboys marched 43-yards in 4 plays, which was culminated by a 44-yard touchdown pass from
Gunner Mefferd to
Antoine Thompson, to take a 20-17 lead with 12:32 left in the third quarter.
The Grizzlies would end the third quarter and go midway into the fourth quarter by scoring 24 unanswered points, led by 2 touchdown passes from Buksa, to take a 41-20 lead. The Cowboys would score their final touchdown with 53 seconds remaining in the game, on a 2-yard run by
Ezekiel Tapia to make the final score 41-27.
Gunner Mefferd finished the game with 6 of 24 completions for 87 yards and a touchdown.
Darren Williams would throw 2 for 9 for 81 yards and an interception.
Kam Mosby would lead the Cowboys in rushing with 14 rushes for 98 yards and a touchdown.
Antoine Thompson led receivers with 1 catch for 44 yards and a touchdown.
The Cowboys will play the Dixie State Trailblazers for Homecoming on September 21
st, at the Patricia and Leveo Sanchez Family Stadium in Las Vegas, NM at 1pm.
