Chadron, Nebraska - The Cowgirls split Saturday's doubleheader at Chadron State losing the opener 4-3 and winning the second game 3-2.
Saturday's first game saw the host Eagles jump out to a 4-0 lead after four innings of play. The Cowgirls plated two runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth inning. In the seventh, NMHU got the go ahead run to the plate but saw the rally cut short, falling 4-3.
Lexi Apodaca hit a homer, her fourth of the season, in the fifth inning and
Karla Banegas hit a homer, her third of the season, in the sixth to pace the Cowgirls.
In game two NMHU scored a run in the second inning and added two more in the sixth inning and then held off a late Chadron State rally to notch the 3-2 victory.
Maya Milano picked up the complete game win for the Cowgirls to improve to 7-5 on the season.
Lexi Apodaca,
Gabrielle Varela, and
Shaylene Saladin each recorded an RBI in the Cowgirl victory that snapped a nine game losing streak.
The two teams play a doubleheader on Sunday at 11:00 am.
