Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowgirls play their final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday night when they welcome Western New Mexico to historic Las Vegas for a 6:00 pm match. The match has been designated a Black Out! Fans are encouraged to wear black, and the first 100 attendees will receive a rally towel courtesy of Quality Care.
NMHU is 11-12 overall and 4-6 in RMAC matches entering play on Tuesday evening.
NMHU HEAD COACH:
Meg Grose is in her second season at New Mexico HIghlands. She earned her first win as the head coach of the Cowgirls over Sul Ross State on September 13th and her first conference win against Adams State on September 20th, 2024. She was previously the head coach at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.
LAST TIME OUT: The Cowgirls swept last weekend's RMAC Power Pod matches in Chadron, Nebraska beating Black Hills State 3-1 on Friday and Chadron State 3-0 on Saturday. Junior Azizia Morris recorded 25 kills and
Marissa Sandoval-Moya had 42 assists in the NMHU wins. As a team the Cowgirls had 21 service aces over the two matches.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Western New Mexico is 10-14 overall and 5-9 in Lone Star Conference play this season. Head coach Geno Frugoli, a graduate of UNLV, is in his third season at Western New Mexico. Daphne Posthumus leads the Mustangs with 230 kills while Hannah Haggard has 468 assists. Defensively, Mikelle McAfee has 317 digs and Brynlee Burris has 94 blocks to pace WNMU.
Tuesday marks the second meeting of the year between the two teams with the Cowgirls taking a 3-1 decision from the Mustangs earlier this season in Silver City. WNMU holds a 6-4 lead over the last ten meetings between the two rivals.
CAREER MILESTONE: Senior
Abby Carlsen eclipsed the 1,000 career assist mark in Saturday afternoon at Chadron State.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING: As a team, the Cowgirls lead the RMAC at 1.92 service aces per set and are second in the conference at 15.57/digs per set.
Junior
Becca Wiersema is sixth in the RMAC with 4.12 digs per set and eighth with 0.35 service aces per set.
Sophomore
Meg Pfannerstill is fifth in the RMAC with 0.37 service aces per set.
The Cowgirls 20 service aces against Northwestern Oklahoma State is the most by an RMAC team this season.
