Chadron, Nebraska - The Cowgirls dropped both ends of Sunday's double header at Chadron State losing the opener 4-1 and falling in the nightcap 11-9.
In Sunday's opener, Chadron State plated three runs in the third to take the early lead. Vicky Alverado laced a single to right center that scored
Chloe Corral to get the Cowgirls on the board in the fifth inning. The Eagles answered with a run in their half of the fifth and closed out NMHU for the win.
Sunday's nightcap featured a combined 20 runs and 24 hits. For the Cowgirls
Heaven Medina,
Jazmyn Griego, and
Vicky Alvarado each hit homers to pace the NMHU offense. Median had a game high four RBI.
The Cowgirls scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 9-8 lead. Chadron State, however, answered with three in their half of the inning to reclaim the lead 11-9. NMHU loaded the bases in the top half of the seventh inning but were unable to push across a run.
The two teams play a doubleheader in Chadron on Monday. First pitch is set for 11:00 am.
