Chadron, Nebraska - The Cowgirls split Monday's doubleheader at Chadron State taking the opener 3-1 before dropping game two 12-0. NMHU is now 7-11 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
Monday's first game saw
Shaylene Saladin open the game with a single. Three batters later,
Heaven Medina singled her home to give NMHU the early 1-0.
The score remained 1-0 until the Cowgirls half of the fourth inning when the plated two more runs when a
Vicky Alvarado single scored
Cheyenne Ben and
Heaven Medina to extend the lead to 3-0.
Chadron State answered with a run in their half of the fourth inning, but that was as close as the would get as
Karla Banegas went four innings to pick up her first win of the season.
Jazmyn Griego pitched three scoreless innings in relief for the Cowgirls.
In game two, the Cowgirls couldn't get on track offensively and fell to the Eagles 12-0 in five innings.
Up next, the Cowgirls are at home next Saturday and Sunday hosting Black Hills State.
