Colorado Springs, Colorado - A pair of Cowgirls were on the 2025 All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Team that was released this morning.
Kapiolani Anitielu is the Freshman of the Year and on the Second Team. Junior
Juliana Aragon was named to the Second Team.
The All-RMAC teams and awards are selected and voted on by the league's 15 head coaches. Coaches are not permitted to vote for their players.
Anitielu finished the year eighth in the RMAC in scoring at 16.3 points per game and fifth in three pointers made per game at 2.0. She was also fourth in blocked shots (1.1 per game) and fifth in steals (2.0 per game). She was voted the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week on January 20th.
"For Sugar this was the goal for her since she arrived on campus. I'm extremely proud of her and that this has come into fruition due to her countless hours in the gym in the dark," said NMHU Head Coach
Lindsey Fearing. "It's hard to come in as a freshman and be ready for the college game right away, but she was and made an immediate impact and lead our team in a lot of categories. She's helped us create HERstory at Highlands, that is going to continue for years to come. Not only is she a phenomenal athlete, she's a phenomenal person and teammate. Thankful and blessed that I get to coach her! This is only the beginning."
Aragon scored her 1,000th career point on January 30th and recorded her 250th career assist on February 8th. She finished the season ninth in the RMAC in scoring at 15.6 ppg, fourth in assists with 4.3 per game, and tied for ninth with 1.8 steals per game. She was ninth in the conference in field goal percentage at 41.4% and number one in free throw percentage at 87.5%. Aragon's Assist/Turnover ratio of 1.3 is seventh best in the RMAC. This is the third consecutive season that Aragon was recognized in the conference's post-season awards.
"So proud of Jules for turning this year around compared to last year. She's a huge piece of why this program has turned around for the better," said Fearing. "She's been a part of the highs and lows of Highlands. This year she was a big piece to the high that Highlands Women's Basketball is on and going to stay on. I haven't coached a kid that works harder than her and cares more about the team than herself. Again thankful and blessed that I get to coach her."
The Cowgirls advanced to the RMAC Playoffs this year for the first time since the 2004-05 season.
