Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands University Athletics Communications Office earned three honors in the 2025-26 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest, including two district-winning entries and one district runner-up selection.
The Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest recognizes excellence in athletics communications and storytelling across multiple divisions and categories. District winners advance to national judging.
New Mexico Highlands earned District 6 honors in three separate categories.
The feature
"NMHU's Bob DeVries Returns Home to Wisconsin for NCAA Championships" was selected as the district winner in the Coach/Administrator Profile category. The story chronicled the longtime New Mexico Highlands coach's return to his home state as the Cowboys competed at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
New Mexico Highlands also earned district winner recognition in the Social Justice/Diversity category for
"Pacific Games Medal Winners Ready for Upcoming Season at New Mexico Highlands." The feature highlighted members of the Cowgirls volleyball program who represented their countries at the Pacific Mini Games before returning to campus for the start of the 2025 season.
In the Historical Feature category, student assistant
Jace Hinton earned district runner-up honors for
"Regis and New Mexico Highlands' Shared Las Vegas Roots." The story explored the historical connection between New Mexico Highlands and Regis University, tracing ties that date back to Las Vegas, New Mexico.
The College Sports Communicators organization annually recognizes outstanding achievement in athletics communications through the Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest, honoring work in feature writing, profiles, historical storytelling and other communications categories.
